For its brand-new, cutting-edge manufacturing plant in Lodz, one of Poland's top label converters, Wiking Graf, has ordered a Mark Andy Evolution Series E5 flexo press. Three of the US manufacturer's presses are already in use at the family-owned and -managed company, which largely serves the pharmaceutical sector, and are working in triple shift pattern.
The new Mark Andy is a part of a significant investment program that saw the company move from its downtown location to a new purpose-built facility on the outskirts of Lodz in April 2022 due to the continued increase in demand for pharmaceutical packaging. Owner and CEO Marek Jakubowski of Wiking Graf said in a statement: "Our new HQ affords us more than three times the space we had before and has provided us with the chance to organize production in a more logical process. We require the new press to fulfill an expanding order list that currently includes many European nations using our cutting-edge products.
A Vetaphone corona treater, 12 flexo print stations with GEW UV curing, chill drums, twin die-cutting stations, two compact parallel web translators, cold foil capability, a screen-printing unit, constant tension laminator, and web turn bars will be included in the high-specification new 17" (430mm) Mark Andy E5 when it will install early in 2023. The E5 also offers automatic and pre-register in addition to a quick online path to save waste associated with setup and job changes.
Unlike most label converters, a tour of the Wiking Graf factory floor is unique. Wiking's plant list features a variety of technology, from sheet fed offset presses to folding machines, guillotines, and collators, all necessary to produce the printed paper instructions that are an essential component of drug packaging. Wiking devotes a significant portion of its work to the pharmaceutical industry. Since security and accuracy are two crucial bywords in this market segment, Wiking has substantially invested in technology to ensure a 100% examination of all printed items before they leave the factory.
