MBO GROUP IS THE ONLY SUPPLIER OF LARGE-FORMAT FOLDING MACHINES
MBO Group is currently the only supplier of large-format folding machines. Demand for these machines has fallen significantly in recent years. On the one hand, this is due to the drop in the length of print runs. In addition, many printshops/bookbinding companies print in medium or small format anyway, or halve the printed large-format runs before carrying out the finishing process.
However, some companies deliberately opt not to separate the sheets before folding. This is mainly for reasons of quality. It is almost impossible to cut large-format sheets cleanly without a loss in quality. Tolerances which arise during the cutting process inevitably also affect folding. This is an absolute no-go if you want to produce high-quality books! Maps and posters are other examples of large-format applications.
MBO has two buckle fold machines for large sheet sizes in its portfolio. The T1120P can process sheet sizes of up to 112 cm x 165 cm (44 1/8" x 65"). The T1420P processes sheet sizes of up to 142 cm x 205 cm (55 7/8" x 80 3/4"). The M7 from Herzog+Heymann can process even larger formats. The maximum print sheet width here is 165 cm (65"). When it comes to length, the M7 can process sheets of 200 cm (78 3/4") and more. Herzog+Heymann is part of MBO Group and specializes in custom machine engineering.
At the MBO Group headquarters in Oppenweiler (near Stuttgart), work is currently underway on two T1420P machines for an Italian customer. Further inquiries, including another one from Italy and one from Spain, are also being processed. Italy and Spain are countries where large sheet formats are typically used. However, there are also several large-format machines from MBO in operation in the Czech Republic, France, Germany and other countries.
The T1420P is supplied with a MABEG palletized feeder as standard. The long register table with two sidelays ensures reliable alignment of large, long sheets. Vacuum belts transport the sheets without marking them. The combination with a lattice-type table ensures that no static charge is generated.
Because of its size the buckle plates of the T1420P are very heavy. This makes it particularly convenient that the buckle plates can be lifted out pneumatically for adjustment of the sheet deflector. In addition, all adjusting elements for the buckle plates are located on one side. As there is no need for the operator to go around to the other side of the machine, it can be operated by one person working alone. The optional, patented sheet return device (RFE) also makes for added convenience of operation. It reduces the path between feeder and delivery by around 80%. Further advantages of the sheet return device are higher effective output and a significant space saving.
The standard equipment of the T1420P includes many other tried and trusted MBO features, for example the low-maintenance belt drive, the ergonomic, patented slitter shaft cassette and the waste sheet deflector. Double sheets and incorrectly folded sheets are detected by means of ultrasonic sensors and sheet monitoring and ejected after the first folding unit without interrupting production.
