END OF THE YEAR MESSAGE TO DYNAGRAPH STAFF
Jan 16, 2015

On the occasion of "End of the Year 2014”, Dynagraph organized its annual staff gathering with the presence of Mr. Antoine El Kara, CEO of Dynagraph group, and other senior executives. During the Gathering and before starting the new 2015, Mr. Antoine delivered a New Year speech, addressing a message to each member of Dynagraph. The full text is as follows:
Dear Sirs,
With the start of 2015 we are looking at new challenges ahead of us economical, political, social, historical just to list a few ones. Dynagraph has therefore to be ready to work as a unit to accomplish its objective and remain a regional leader in offset, to grow its market share in industries such as Large Format Inkjet printing, Digital Printing, Flexo, Films & Adhesives, and a number of other new segments which offer growth potential whether directly or indirectly related to printing. Yet even new market segments that will make good use of the company’s existing sales and service network.
Now that we spoke about the future what is it we learned from the past few years?
In 2008, we thought that structural changes in our industry with the introduction of disruptive technologies as the IPAD, social media and a number of advancements in data connectivity would deal a blow to our business.
Instead, while we witnessed a sharp drop in our equipment sales we overcame that period by turning our focus to the sale and promotion of consumable products. The signing of an exclusivity agreement with Flint the sheetfed and webfed offset manufacturer was a milestone, while the focus on digital inkjet technologies by HP offered new opportunities and with it new hopes.
Meanwhile, the opening of an office in Saudi Arabia was a daring and difficult move as we were determined to step back into a lucrative market that offered us future prospects.
Although the insolvency of manroland in 2011 was a sheer reminder of worst days to come, it was also evidence of how resilient we are as an organization in the face of adversity. Competitors tried to discredit our sales and service organization, predicting our end, however failed to do so, since while 50% of our total turnover depended on manroland the sheer size of our company and the steps we took early on to reduce our dependency on vendors allowed us to survive the worst of times.
In 2012, then another setback with the decision by Fujifilm to open up the market to other distributors. A wake up call, a reminder of changing times.
Ongoing discussions with Kodak allowed us to make a swift move and change sides. While the idea of offering our own private label and reduce our dependency on national brands became a reality. Optima (Offset), Optipack (Flexo) and Optivision (Digital Media) are part of our new branding.
Meanwhile, Dynagraph celebrated 60 years history and was make great strides in penetrating the Iraqi market.
In 2014, we have reached almost similar Sales levels as 2011 although with a more diversified portfolio of products, less dependence on equipment sales and equally less reliance on individual brands.
We are in 2015 and I want to remind all of you that we need you to show more determination, more creativity, more pro-active thinking and more teamwork. Time is of the essence and we cannot wait for people to just fit in, however we need all of you to be part of that dynamic.
We need the people from accounting to be more vigilant. We need the people in IT to understand that they play an essential role in making the lives of their colleagues easier and understanding the urgency that lays behind the implementation of any IT solution. That means as well how well the technical and functional implementation has been done. We need the people from P&B to maintain proper stock levels and insure quick deliveries and proper logistic. We need the people from HR to seek more talents and work on their retention. We need the people from administration to pay more attention to details. We need the people from sales to invest more time in charming new customers and looking for new opportunities.
But essentially we need the people from service to manage to generate income on their own by promoting and selling preventive maintenance agreements, overhauling, installations, … After all this department has determined pretty much most of Dynagraph’s fate over the past decades and will continue to do so over the next years. You need to take more pride in what you do and your contribution to this organization. But this goes to all of you even the ones who are not directly mentioned in this speech.
On the 15th of November 2014, Mr. Nicolas Kara (God Bless his Soul) Mr. Ihsan Kara’s older brother passed away which marks a new era in the company’s history and a reminder of changing times.
