UPP embraces potential for higher quality applications with installation of region’s first continuous feed inkjet press

Dec 27, 2018

The Océ ColorStream 6000 Chroma unleashes new opportunities in commercial print for the leading printing press in the region.

Canon Middle East, in partnership with Dynagraph, today announced that United Printing and Publishing (UPP), has added the region’s first Océ ColorStream 6000 Chroma continuous feed inkjet press technology to its robust print production environment. The forward-thinking company will be the first in the Gulf region to benefit from this highly versatile inkjet digital technology, enabling it to effectively cater to increasing customer demand.

The UPP printing press, based in Abu Dhabi, provides for a range of customer needs, covering the entire printing process for newspapers and prestigious magazines, beautifully crafted books, directories, annual reports and brochures as well as outdoor print. The team of 450+ experts offers a consistent standard of customer service to clients across the region.

The latest installation of Canon’s continuous feed inkjet press was completed in record time of one month, in time for a large order for UAE examination prints. It comes at a pivotal time in the industry as the inkjet revolution continues to gain momentum. With the new press, UPP will have increased system versatility to extend the spectrum of applications they are able to produce digitally with the additional benefits of exceptional quality, enhanced productivity, as well as low paper waste and efficient ink and power consumption.

Speaking about the installation, Ali Neaimi from UPP said: “The move to expand UPP’s capabilities in line with customer demand called for innovative and collaborative thinking. For us, having the right product and the right partner was of paramount importance in successfully managing the installation of such a critical application. The challenge included preparing the site, system integration, expertise on-boarding, staff training, material management, system hands-on and production management, all in a secure environment. Having worked with Canon and Dynagraph for over ten years and recognizing its industry-leading high-volume inkjet market share, we knew they were up to the task and were pleased to work with them on this project. Today we set a higher standard of quality in record time, even on lighter papers, with a scalable system that covers the massive task of exam printing and finishing of all UAE schools.”

The proven, scalable, rock-solid web-fed printer is customized for such businesses where productivity and quality are further enhanced on the new model, thanks to advanced image processing technologies and a new ‘pre-fire’ function that ensures consistent droplet size and positioning. These innovations deliver smooth ink coverage for large areas of dense colour and make the new ColorStream 6000 Chroma press suitable for even the most demanding commercial print applications.

This will also be the first system in the UAE and the Gulf at large using the revolutionary Chromera ink set, which offers a wider color gamut, more brilliance and detail sharpness than any other ink set. The high pigment load of the Chromera inks extends the application range of the press to lighter weight media with reduced ink show-through and enables the delivery of higher quality documents on uncoated or inkjet treated papers.

Shadi Bakhour, Business Unit Director, B2B, Canon Middle East, said: “We are proud to be the vendor of choice to provide UPP with advanced capabilities to push productivity and handle the most demanding deadlines with our innovative solutions. This installation is a significant milestone in the region and it demonstrates our depth of engagement with print service providers in the high-volume production space. Today is not only about the installation of a unique solution, but it is also about the successful partnership between Canon, UPP, and Dynagraph, companies that are committed to taking the industry to new heights”.

Jamal Kanaan Dynagraph said: “The Continuous Feed Inkjet Printer series puts agility and convenience at the heart of the business, allowing UPP to achieve its mission of facilitating highly effective operations in order to deliver high standard products. Our partnership with Canon has given us the confidence to go the extra mile in providing consultative services to our customers, backed by the broadest portfolio of digital products, workflow solutions and business development support in the industry.”

The deal is a game-changer in the market, meeting the unique needs of today’s demanding working environments in books, newspaper, graphic arts, direct mail, and transaction. Offering running speeds of up to 1,714 A4 pages per minute in full-color mode and an optional maximum speed of 2,020 A4 pages per minute for monochrome work, the solution delivers consistently high output quality from the first page. With the integrated end-to-end reliable and steadfast solution, UPP will be able to provide the UAE and Gulf market with new services based on innovative inkjet digital technology.
